National Gallery of Capodimonte Palace

Capodimonte Art Gallery is one of the largest art museums in Italy, it is located in one of the royal palaces of the Bourbon dynasty, surrounded by a huge park. With its construction Charles Bourbon already planned to place here the richest collection that he inherited from his mother Farnese (an ancient family who has known fame and fortune when Alexander Farnese became a pope under the name of Paul III), paintings of Italian artists of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, which became the first and main part of the collection. Later it was enriched by other collections and paintings. The second floor of the museum stores paintings from the Neapolitan churches. The museum can boast of the masterpieces of such great masters like Masaccio, Mantegna, Simone Martini, Giovanni Bellini, Titian (here is one of the largest collections of his works), Raphael, Michelangelo, Parmigianino, Caravaggio, Guido Reni, Artemisia Gentileschi, Luca Giordano, P. Brueghel the Elder, El Greco, Carracci. Until 1946, the palace was the residence of the Duke of Aosta, one of the branches of the Savoy dynasty, and only in 1957 the National Museum of Capodimonte was officially opened, part of the palace retained the image of the residence and is presented to visitors as royal apartments. Here you can also see the famous porcelain boudoir, porcelain, a unique series of tapestries. Fans of Contemporary art will also be satisfied, since 1996 the new collection became a part of the museum with artists such as Andy Warhol, Alberto Burri, Mario Mertz and others.
